About the Event
What does it mean to found or refound a country? Can one man play such an outsized role in the destiny of a regime? How do we evaluate political greatness? What are the consequences of high order regime politics? In this lecture and ensuing conversation, Dr. Petranovich will take us through a crucial moment in our national history as he examines the leadership of Abraham Lincoln in the regime crisis decade of the 1850s, and the lessons it holds for our contemporary crisis.

Danilo Petranovich is the Director of the Abigail Adams Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Previously, he taught political science at Duke University and Yale University. His scholarly expertise is in nineteenth century European and American political and social thought. He is currently writing a book, contracted with Yale University Press, on nationalism and the North in antebellum America.
