John Macias is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at St. Patrick's Seminary & University. He earned his Ph.D in Philosophy from the Center for Thomistic Studies at the University of St. Thomas, where he received a strong background in the philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas and the Catholic intellectual tradition. His doctoral dissertation focused on the political philosophy of Alasdair MacIntyre, and it was entitled, "Alasdair MacIntyre's Flourishing Human Being and Small-Scale Political Communities." His publications include "John Finnis and Alasdair MacIntyre on our Knowledge of the Precepts of Natural Law," "John Finnis and the Political Community," and "What’s a Goat-Stag?: Aristotle on Definitions and Non-Existent Kinds." His presentations include "A Common Ground in Nature: A Point of Contact between St. Thomas Aquinas and Karl Marx," "What Rights? Whose Rationality?," and "The Liberal Arts amidst Contemporary Social Structures." Prior to St. Patrick's, he taught at the University of Mary, where he held appointments in Philosophy, Catholic Studies, and Residence Life.
